Good breakfast and really nice and helpfull staff. They organized transfer to Cat Ba (our next stop) pretty comfortable and cheap. Room was big and ok for the price. You can explore the old town by walking.
The thinnest house I’ve ever stayed in, big room and big bed, good internet connection and cable TV, nice and helpfull staff, great area.
The staff was extremely helpful and speaks good english. Trips can be easily booked at the reception. We would definetly recommend the kangaroo hostel!
Lucy was very hospitable: she helped us book trips, was very patient with all our questions and let us hang around in between bus journeys. The room was reasonably clean although somewhat aged. The bed was all right. Good price too!

Exactly what I was looking for. Nice place, great value, outside of the major tourist corridors in the Hanoi old town. Fridge, balcony, hairdryer, simple but good breakfast included. Alist & co. were a great host. Alist even prepared a take-away breakfast for me when I was leaving early for the airport. I would definitely stay here again!
This was the first place we stayed in Vietnam and it really set the tone for travels across it. The staff at the kangaroo hostel (especially Lucy) are some of the most helpful and accommodating people we’ve met in our 3 months in Asia. After staying here we returned to Hanoi a week later to catch an evening train and Lucy let us leave our bags for the day and wait in the common area for the day. Lucy also helped us book travel and gave us information about how much we should pay for things which was great.
Hotel at the centre of Hanoi, 1 minute walk from the night market,10 minutes from the imperial citadel. Very friendly and helpful staff, especially Lucy who welcomed us showing all the main activities in the old quarter. A very good stay and value for money!
