FAQs about hotels in Honolulu

A True Water Sports Paradise

Standing proudly on the island of Oahu in the Pacific Ocean, Honolulu is the Hawaiian capital, meaning "a sheltered bay." Spreading along the white sandy beaches and supported by the strong back of the volcanic mountains, it's a real island paradise.

Honolulu's most popular and famous district, Waikiki, features the stunning Waikiki Beach decorated with hundreds of surfboards, palms and lounge chairs. It’s also a center for the city’s nightlife and shopping, especially along Kalakaua and Kuhio Avenues.

As the most popular activities in Honolulu include surfing, snorkeling, canoeing and other water sports, it's no surprise the city has a number of sandy beaches. Try Hanauma Bay, a crescent-shaped beach with rolling, green hills behind it.

For fans of hiking and exploring, nature awaits at Diamond Head Mountain, a volcanic tuff cone where you can admire the panoramic view of the city. There is also the Bishop Museum with the world’s largest collection of Hawaiian and Pacific artifacts and the Waikiki Aquarium with over 490 species of marine fauna and flora.

From hotels near Honolulu International Airport to hotels near the beach, Booking.com has plenty of properties, from cheap to luxury, for your Honolulu trip.

    Honolulu is a magical city.

Honolulu is a magical city. Oahu may be crowded, but there is much to see and do. There are excellent museums (Bishop, Museum of Art, The Palace and Mission Houses), botanical Gardens on both the town and Windward sides, and arguably the best surf in the world. The are still hidden gems in Waikiki as well! When visiting, check out some cool restaurants on Waialae Avenue or Chinatown. Catch a show at Kumu Kahua Theatre. This is a stellar local theatre and provides an opportunity to experience many different perspectives on life in Hawaii.

We really enjoyed our trip and especially the around the island day trip we took with Oahu Nature Tours. Our guide Brandon was very engaging and informative and a delicious shrimp lunch was included. Weather was cooler in March than we expected and overcast most days we were there. Duke's at the Outrigger had a great buffet lunch for a reasonable price. We really enjoyed the Honolulu Festival parade and fireworks and free hula shows at the International Market Place shopping mall at night which included some stories of the history of the area and its people.

This is our third time staying at the Sheraton and I will definitely go back. The hotel location is central to everything, right on the beach and a short stroll to the shops and restaurants. The staff are lovely, so helpful and friendly. It’s also such a great place for families and kids, as there is a huge pool with a slide overlooking the ocean. There’s also an adults only infinity pool for those that don’t like the noise and splashing of kids so it’s a win win! Lovely place to stay, highly recommend.

First of all, the hotel staff is exceptional. They make the stay so very pleasant and are the real reason, along with the location, that I stay here every year for an annual convention. The hotel has been refreshed with the Hawaii style is lovely. The rooms are comfy with great beds. I love the full size Keurig machines in the rooms with plentiful k-cups. About a 6 minute walk to the convention center and 3 minutes to the Ala Moana Shopping Mall. Nearby to food, transport, beach, and post office.

Everything about this hotel was excellent. I cannot fault or have even one negative comment about my room or my stay. I travelled solo and I felt very safe here. The location is perfect and the facilities were above my expectations. My room was a high floor and the view was spectacular. The staff were incredible. In my opinion this is the best hotel on Waikiki Beach and I can only highly recommend it to all my friends. I will be back next summer with my daughters to stay here.

The staff was amazing! Beach chair rentals and beach towels were easy to check out and very convenient. We saw two adult and one young monk seals on the beach behind the hotel, just relaxing on the beach. The hotel was close to Waikiki (maybe 5 minute walk, if that) but not crowded and outside of the loud nightlife. Very close to the zoo, convenient parking if you rent a car. The views from the room were of the ocean AND the mountains. It exceeded ALL of our expectations.

Best location in Waikiki Beach (you can walk right into the beach). The Royal Hawaiian provides a very luxurious experience in a beautiful historic building surrounded by all the entertainment you can imagine in Waikiki. The staff was beyond helpful and friendly; they truly cared about us and making sure that we were satisfied with our stay. Other perks are that the Mai Tai Bar has pretty good food, and you can use the shared pool and hot tub at the Sheraton next door.

We enjoyed our stay very much at the Moana Surfrider! The hotel was beautiful and classic! Great service all around. Our only suggestion is that you book a room on the beach side rather than city side. It got extremely loud at night and if it weren’t for a sound machine, it would’ve been difficult to get to sleep. Also, we recommend hitting Waikiki beach in the morning. It got very busy past 11am. But overall it was an amazing experience!

Staff were very friendly - the service was great. The location was fantastic- almost on the beach! ABC store in the building which was reasonable (given Hawaii prices) for water/food/alcohol. The hotel has an agreement with an equipment rental shop slightly up the street where you can get 3 items per room per day for free eg beach chairs and umbrellas. beach towels were also provided for free at the hotel itself.

The hotel is located conveniently to many restaurants and facilities. It is not on the beach front but about 500mts away. Staff were great, with a special mention to both Angie (house keeping) and Kylie, front desk. Provided breakfast is basic, but enough that you will be satisfied. Room was of a good size (junior suite). We would happily stay here again, and have booked a return stay.

We loved the position of the hotel! We had a corner room overlooking Honolulu Zoo, the beach and Diamond Head. The hotel backs on to the touristy area of Waikiki so, although we weren't far from anything, we felt like we were getting away from the crowds. We loved the simpler, beachy, retro feel of the hotel. The concierge was very helpful assisting us to book a tour of Pearl Harbor.

I liked it. I was ready for a typical 3 stars hotel but this one is better. You are close to the ocean and everything. Right across the street from Hilton Village at a much affordable price. Honestly I cannot fault it. The staff goes beyond. I was treated better than in a 5star hotel in NYC where I went after Hawaii. Worth the try.
