Brief reviews in English (and other languages)
Great location, comfortable and very helpful staff.
The meals were great and being able to see the chef make some of it was good. The kaiseki was the highlight and though some dishes were a bit different, we really enjoyed the meal. Even the breakfast in the morning was good. We had no issues getting the bigger baths and shower after dinner. They provide great amenities and you get to wear a yukata around the ryokan. All the staff were super friendly.
Loved everything. Izutsu Yasujiro (7th generation owner) has so much passion in everything he does. The staff is wonderful and we enjoyed our stay a lot. A must is the dinner menu that changes every day and adapted to every season that changes every two weeks.
Great location, very helpful staff and comfortable rooms. The baths are also nice even though not traditional.
My husband and I loved it here. It was clean and the staff were very accommodating. The baths in the Ryokan were divine and the food was next level. I recommend booking the dinner if there’s room.
It’s on the pricey side but worth it if you want a slice of the traditional style. Also recommend both the breakfast and dinner at least once, the Japanese multi-courses were stunning! The decor was beautiful and well furnished. Everything was supplied including traditional pjs. You have your own toilets but shared showers/baths. Very clean and they are private once it’s your turn (couples ok). 7min walk from station and 10min walk from subway. Staff were wonderful. Will definitely come back here
Adding the dinner, prepared by the meticulous chef/owner made the experience extra special. I highly recommend it to other travelers.
It’s a fantastic experience overall. The welcome was warm, the hostess smiled and accommodated me for a slightly early check-in. The room is so clean, there is a spacious sitting area separate from the sleeping area, and the private toilet is just right. I slept a deep, peaceful sleep, it was quiet all around. The shared baths are fine, very clean and fully equipped with high quality shampoo, conditioner and body soap. Bamboo trees outside, shiny black tiles inside give a cleansing atmosphere. The breakfast, which is included, is the piece de resistance. A grandmotherly lady served me, with warmth and welcome. The food was fresh and so delicious in its simplicity. Hot miso soup, cool mountain plum pickles with black sesame seeds, tofu in a savoury gelatinous base, various other pickles, fluffy omelette roll and rice. Vegetarian, zen, filling without heaviness. Green tea and fruit to finish off.
The service and staff were great. We did the traditional dinner, served by the owner with translated stories. This was phenomenal! Great experience and delicious sashimi. The onsen were also very nice and the only one we came across in Japan that my husband and I could use together!
This is the sister hotel to the majestic, however it really pulls the budget strings in. For a whole week, I was given one tiny shampoo for myself. The children did receive a toiletries set each but I’d be careful about getting it in the eyes as we had tears. You are able to use the restaurants and bars in the other hotel, however the Albion doesn’t travel a pool and you are not allowed to use the majestic pool, despite it never being too busy. I loved that the breakfast room was bright, well laid out and lots of help on hand.
