Brief reviews in English (and other languages)
The elder woman that owns the ryokan was incredibly kind and thoughtful. We had a long journey arriving from Osaka by train and bus, but the second we got there, she served us tea and a sweet cake—it was just lovely. The location is perfect, being close to some beautiful shrines, Gion, and Pontocho Alley. I especially looked forward to the breakfast she served us every morning. Something new each day, and she even catered each meal to the things we liked or disliked. She gave me and my friend a parting gift and was just a wonderful person.
Authentic Ryokan Experience. The host was very friendly and helpful
Lady really lovely and friendly and helpful. Spoke much better Engliah than 90% of people in Japan. Very generous with our little boy.
It was in walking distance of all the attractions. Being 103 years old it made you feel nostalgic.
The elder lady who owns/runs Ryokan Uemura is just about the sweetest person I met on my trip to Japan. And while the interior of the ryokan shows signs of age, every detail relating to the comfort and enjoyment of my stay was immaculate. For example, the owner laundered my dirty clothing without being asked, remembered that I preferred coffee over tea and served it to me with my breakfast the second (and final) morning of my stay, brought me both newspapers (in English) with my breakfast and every spout in the showerhead functioned flawlessly, among other things. I’m not exaggerating when I say that no detail here was overlooked, and I liked the accommodations (including location) of Ryokan Uemura even more than the those of the significantly more expensive Ryokan Izuyasu, which was also phenomenal. As an aside, the owner’s charm and kindness shall never be forgotten, and the kiwi she served me with breakfast was without question the best I’ve ever had in my life.
The location was a beautiful, quiet residential area within walking distance of many of Kyoto’s famous sites. The ryokan itself was comfortable and cozy and the hostess is wonderful. She’s very kind and takes hospitality seriously. She seems genuinely happy to greet guests and makes little craft towels that she gives away to guests at the end of their stay.
The old lady who runs this ryokan it’s a lovely person. She speaks very little English but it’s not a problem. She was so kind and we couldn’t find a better place. The room had a lot of sunlight and was big. There’s also a kind of balcony inside. If you want to know how japanese people used to live, STAY OVER THERE.
Great place. In an old part of town, full of small houses
The staff was amazing. One 80/90 something your old sweetheart who cooked amazing breakfast and was so hospitable. Hoping ok as full of life then as she was. She was so great!
What a fun place to stay!! Great staff and good location for Rogers Place : )
