The town itself isn't particularly interesting, although it does have some nice options for seafood and urban beach type activities. The main point of it seems to be as a base of operations for either day trips to places of interest in the surrounding area or longer trips into the desert peninsula of La Guajira. Both of which seem easy to arrange.

Riohacha feels more like a stop gap for those headed up to Cabo de la Vela. Its a small town with lots of conveniences, like an airport, a lot of hotels, bus terminal, lots of convenience stores, groceries, pharmacies and banks. The beach is OK, not amazing. it might be possible to swim sometimes but the water doesn't look clear and clean. The people are generally friendly but you must be able to speak some Spanish -as much as the rest of Latin America.. It's a good place to get your bearings and rest or catch up on a little work if you find a place with good wifi. Its nice for cocktails and a romantic stroll down the pier.

I took my daughter to Alta Guajira!
I took my daughter to Alta Guajira! I choose Ecoutour agency. We had a cultural exchange with the Wayuu community. Our drivers (yuglio and Gustavo) were super helpful and made us feel safe at all times. Water is scarce but the rancherías make anything possible to have everything available for the tourists. The crossing to the Alta Guajira is beautiful. We had a great experience and my daughter had an amazing learning experience. It is sad to see so many children begging during the crossing. Our drivers were helpful to teach us how to distribute food so there was enough for everyone.

Riohacha is a rustic, different and interesting city.
Riohacha is a rustic, different and interesting city. The traffic is not crazy like many south american cities. People are friendly and the Wayuu (natives of the region are a very quite gentle people) with very beautiful clothing and crafts to sell at very fair prices) If you are looking for a quite relaxing holiday this is the place. If you are seeking a party location pick somewhere else. If you are interested in nature and a very different Colombian culture you will enjoy Riohacha. It has a very large market where you can purchase just about anything. We spend most of one day there shopping. We expected to see allot of Venezuelan refugees however there were very few. We learned the UN has a processing centre set up near the border where they process Venezuelans fleeing their country. Riohacha holiday location infrastructure appears to be developing and will undoubtably be a major tourist hub within 10 years. If you want to experience a location that is not yet over run with large tourist crowds and the prices that go with it, now is the time to visit Riohacha and area.

there's not too much to do in Riohacha but If is a bigger City so you can Bus lots of stuff in normal Shops there If there's anything you need.. also Riohacha ist a perfect starting Point for Tours to Alta Guajira/Punta Gallinas (which is absolutely worth the 3days/2nights Tour) and for a das Trip to parque nacional Flamenco with (usually) lots of Flamingos. While not being touristy the city is save to walk around (I'm a Woman usually traveling solo) so you get eine real colombian vibe of this relatively poor area
The location by the Malacon (waterfront) is excellent. Its very clean and the friendly staff are great. Very nice hotel and safe. We were with another couple and booked 2 rooms. Would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone and all the major tour companies know them. They will have a breakfast ready to take with u, for early tours. Air conditioning worked great..All kinds of restaurants very close by. This seems to be a newer hotel or its been recenty redone. Nice find! And great price!
Everything. It’s the best hostel I have been so far. Actually it’s more a super nice hotel with a dorm than a hostel. The staff was super friendly, the pool on the roof is amazing for the view and the tranquility, the dorm is super comfy with curtains on the beds, AC, the private bathroom looks like one from a nice hotel. Everything was extremely clean (first time I walk barefoot in a bathroom of a hostel)! I would give a 200/10 to this hostel! THANK YOU
This place is so great and clean. TV, wifi and air conditioning. Shower was great. The patio is indeed bonita, and they serve an excellent breakfast in their other outdoor patio. The chef is very sweet and if you're lucky enough might you'll her very polite and sweet son Camilo. What wonderful people! A true gem in Riohacha. Tip: don't eat at the restaurant across the street Papalao - walk 5 min to the beach and eat somewhere along there!
Great location. Close to beach, restaurants, all the things we needed to do in Riohacha. We had an issue with a terrible tour company trying to rip us off while in Riohacha & the staff were amazing at helping us out, went above & beyond for us. They are really nice people who genuinely care about their guests.
it is clean and well located and the staff is kind, professional and efficient. my second time at this hotel and my companion’s first. She loved the view from the rooftop terrace and enjoyed lounging in the hammock up there.
I really liked everything. It's a downtown hotel so one would expect some noise. The area around the hotel is very quiet at night however. I was happy to be on the second floor as there is no elevator. Good value, nice staff.
Very pleasant hotel with spacious set-up, beautiful pool area and next to the beach. Good breakfast, very friendly staff and good wifi. Spacious and spotless rooms.
