Get room 617 if you can. It has a terrific view of the Bund. Breakfast is great. Take some time to look around this classic old Shanghai hotel. It is not modern, but 617 is a very comfortable en suite. Friendly staff and helpful. Not too many eateries in the immediate vicinity, but we went to Vue in the neighboring hotel (on the top floor) for a fantastic dinner at the top of Shanghai. I don’t think there is a hotel closer to the Bund. I’d stay again anytime.
The location to the Bund is good and the view from our room was to the river and the high rises on the other side s quite spectacular. The history of the hotel is great as it has hosted some famous people and events and these are recorded along he various corridors..

Nothing you described does this hotel justice. This was the jewel of our vacation. Okay I love history and being able to stay in a part of history was off the charts. I wish I could have stayed for a month. I wish more hotels like this were still around. I was taken back to my childhood. The smells and sounds and the overall ambiance are heavenly. The breakfast. Don’t get me started. It has no equal in my experience. See the photos Everybody should get to experience this once. Shshhh! Don’t tell them. The value of this stay is worth double what they charged.
Staying in this hotel is like living a bit of Shanghai history while enjoying the luxury of a nice hotel. The rooms are spacious with a sofa, many closets,and a large business desk (with a fax machine). The bathroom has both a shower and a bathtub and is well lit with lots of room. The lobby is expansive with an elegant feel and a boutique cafe is located to one side. It is a great place to wander around and look at the photos showing the history of the grand old place and visit the banquet rooms. The staff spoke good English and went out of their way to make us feel at home. They brought a fruit and snack basket to the room, daily weather reports and were always very helpful. AND we were pleasantly surprised by the price. You get a lot for your money here, and it is located within easy walking distance of the Bund.
