Yukiko (staff) was super friendly, and took a couple of us out for sukiyaki. Jiro (the most important staff member, also a dog) was cute and playful. People coming in and out gave the place a family vibe and after a day I thought I might skip a deadline and stay longer (another guest skipped a flight to stay another night!). Old Kyoto building was interesting and it had modern bathrooms/showers, and a massage chair. BREAKFAST was huge and had a lot of variety. The place also has party nights, tea ceremonies and the owner will ferry you to a public bath at no charge. There is good reason this place is so highly rated. If anyone badmouths it, it is probably just to try to keep it to themselves.
One of the best hostels we’ve been at! Amazing staff, clean, and every Friday there’s dinner with all the guests. Super fun, would stay there again!
Everything! The best hostel I’ve stayed in. Clean, excellent location, really friendly staff, lovely dog and the best aspect was the communal atmosphere where staff and guests hang out together.

The stuff is great, the facilities are good, great breakfast and it is a good place to meet other people. On friday night we made a barbecue and a little party and it was great: a lot of people and a lot of food (also free beer) all of this free of charge.
I really like the staff there. They are so helpful, kind and nice. I love the breakfast there and free public bath. They were just made my trip. I have already recommend a friend to stay in October. Hope she will enjoy to stay. 🙂
Great team, very helpful. The traditional family house is in a quiet street, . Breakfast is served with various specialties, fresh fruits, cakes, etc.. Easy to reach from subway and many buses to access.
The staff were very welcoming and warm, they were helpful with any questions/requests and they were always willing to help. The hostel is very clean and it has the best massage chair! There is also a very friendly doggo, Yuro, who made us feel even more welcome 🙂
We had a very nice stay in this Japanese house. We had a big room for our family. Very friendly people, very very good breakfast! The party on friday was super, love the game catch the noodles, the food was great en we had a lot of fun with all the people. Saturday we eat in the house and they made a lovely diner, never ate so good in Japan for that price and in general 😃 My daughters were in love with Jiro! This is for sure the place to stay in Kyoto!
